Skills Maintenance (Requal) 2026/27
Sunday 1st November 2026; 2 sessions - 9am or 1pm
Members who hold the minimum of either Bronze Medallion or Surf Rescue Certificate are required to undertake Skills Maintenance (Requal) yearly. This training allows participants to gain and maintain valuable life saving and personal development skills.
Prerequisite: current financial member (renew membership for the 2026-2027 season)
How to enrol:

Renew: SLS Hub - Login Screen

once renewal is complete stay in the SLS HUB, and

go to Applications, then

eLearning and you will be taken to the Member Training Portal

Select Skills Maintenance
-
Then Complete e-Learning
-
Enrol in and complete all the e-learning modules relevant to you.

Note – if you hold a Bronze Medallion, you do not need to complete Radio Operator Certificate or SRC as the Bronze Quiz will cover them.

*ART skills maintenance is award only and doesn’t include a new HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy unit of competency. You must still hold a current HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation to complete ART skills maintenance.

After completion of the practical session ensure that you check in with the lead Trainer before you leave to ensure that you have been marked as competent on the LSV Skills Maintenance App.
If you complete your Skills Maintenance at another club, send an email to training@apollobayslsc.com.au to let us know you have completed your Skills Maintenance as some processes need to be completed at the club level.
RESUSCITATION (CPR) - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (HLTAID009)*
During Skills Maintenance we provide patrolling members the opportunity to complete the Resuscitation (CPR) (HLTAID009) qualification. If you don’t have this, or it is about to expire (it only lasts 12 months), book into a course that is running at the same time as the Skills Maintenance session that you have booked into. Please be aware that you need to enrol into the CPR course as well as enrolling in Skills Maintenance. As this is a course, you need to go into the Search Courses tile in the member training portal.

ADVANCED RESUSCITATION TECHNIQUES & FIRST AID (ARTFA)
Competency Units:
HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation,
HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support,
HLTAID011 Provide First Aid,
HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy
Description: Provides participants with the skills and knowledge to manage an emergency first aid situation until professional support arrives AND the skills and knowledge to use oxygen therapy, oxygen resuscitation, suction and major bleed equipment in an emergency situation.

Delivery: Blended; approx. 3.5 hours e-Learning + 8.5 hrs face-to-face training

Expiry: 3 years from assessment date
ART: Within the 3 years requires annual Skills Maintenance

INFLATABLE RESCUE BOAT CREW (IRBC)
Description: Provides participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively crew an IRB in rescue operations
When: Monday 4th, Tuesday 5th & Saturday 9th January 2027
Delivery: Blended; 6 hours e-Learning + 20 hrs face-to-face (includes 8 hrs practical demonstration in the IRB). Conducted over at least 3 separate days

SILVER MEDALLION INFLATABLE RESCUE BOAT DRIVER (IRBD)
Description: Provides participants with the skills and knowledge to drive an Inflatable Rescue Boat in rescue operations
When: Please send your Expressions of Interest to training@apollobayslsc.com.au We will create a course
Delivery: Blended; 7 hours e-Learning + 31.5 hrs face-to-face (includes 12 hrs practical demonstration in the IRB). Conducted over at least 5 separate days

· Current financial member
· 17 years old by time of final assessment
· Current Bronze Medallion holder
· Current IRB Crew holder (have completed IRBC > 6 months ago)
· Current Victorian Marine Licence

SILVER MEDALLION PATROL CAPTAIN (SMPC)
Description: Provide the skills, knowledge, and experience to manage a beach in emergency and non-emergency situations. Required for all Patrol Captains When: Please send your Expressions of Interest to training@apollobayslsc.com.au
Delivery: Blended; 6 hours e-Learning plus 16 hrs face-to-face training
Prerequisites:
· Current financial member
· 17years old by time of assessment
· Current Bronze Medallion plus one other patrolling award
· 2 years of patrolling experience

SILVER MEDALLION AQUATIC RESCUE (SMAR)
Description: The aim of the Silver Medallion Aquatic Rescue award is to provide participants with skills and knowledge to participate in search and rescue (SAR) operations
When: Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st March 2027 (expression of interest are required to be submitted to training@apollobayslsc.com.au)
Delivery: Blended: 6 hours e-learning plus a full weekend
Prerequisites:
· Minimum 17 years old
· Current Bronze Medallion holder
· Complete a pool swim of 400m in 8 minutes or less
Expiry: 31 December each year. Complete annual skills maintenance to maintain currency

SIDE-BY-SIDE VEHICLE (SSV)
Description: Provides participants with the skills and knowledge to operate an SSV safely and effectively for lifesaving purposes.
When: 1) Saturday October 31st, 2026

Delivery: 4 hours Face-to-face training

RADIO OPERATOR CERTIFICATE
Description: The aim of the Radio Operator Certificate is to gain the knowledge and skills to effectively:
· Use communication systems and equipment
· Transmit and receive communications
· Maintain communication equipment
